Why is everyone so up in arms about this?

The Cadillac line doesn't make any sense any sense as is. The letters dont correspond to the size of the vehicle and one still has a "Name" what a quint idea.

ATS

CTS

XTS

Escalade

ELR

SRX

I don't like the new naming scheme, but I am in favor of something that makes sense.

Why does a naming scheme have to make sense? Why does there have to be a naming scheme?

Mustang

Camaro

Falcon

Civic

Testarossa

Quattro

2002

Golf

Town Car

You don't need to have a naming scheme, I sorta wish there were fewer naming schemes.

I mean if you're gonna pick three arbitrary letters, shouldnt they mean something or be organized, I hate Alpha numeric crap as is.

Organization is over rated. Plus Cadillac has built up some name recognition with the CTS and ATS, to throw that out the window now for "organization" doesn't make sense. Who buys a car because of naming organization? No one, that's who.

I Could care less about organization I want something that describes the car and has history not some alphanumeric soup just because the main competitors use it. For a company who always trumps up its "American-ness" they are sure going German with a "everything has to be in numerical order" Or if you have to have numbers Bring back the classic long used Cadillac series XX names (IE 60-62-65-75)

But to someone who doesnt know cars 6 is bigger than 3, as a status symbol which is really what luxury cars are these days, if you have seen an advert for a CT4 when you friend humblebrags about his new CT6 you know its the big one.

Its all marketing crap. I prefer names, like Eldorado and Fleetwood

If this were true and mattered then Mercedes would have done it a long time ago. I still get the C-class and E-class and them all confused, and I'm a car guy. I think you're way over estimating the need for bragging. Cadillac customers are probably less arrogant anyways, since if they only cared about status they wouldn't have bought the Cadillac in the first place.

Simple:

ATS - Calais

CTS - Seville

XTS - Fleetwood

LTS - Brougham

Escalade - Escalade

ELR - Eldorado

SRX - I dunno, Cimarron?

This is EXACTLY why they haven't (and probably wont) change the name of the Escalade.

Mercedes has reasons behind (most of) their names:

S - Sonderklasse (Special Class)
SL - Sportlich Leicht (Sport Light Class)
E - Executive Klasse (Executive Class)
C - Compact Klasse (Compact Class)
G - Gelandewagen (SUV)
GL - Gelandewagen Lange (Long SUV)
GLK - Gelandewagen Leicht Kurz (Short, Light SUV)
SLK - Sportich Leicht Kurz (Short, Light Sport)

And others, that can likely be gleaned from this list. I don't know what ML is supposed to stand for.

It's dumb to constantly change names. You are establishing a name for the car, then you end that by making a new name. It's like with Infiniti. Everyone knows what a G35 or G37 is, they actually have a lot of respect. Why did they end that by naming it the Q50?

Even still. Why did they name it a G35? Why didn't they name it what it's actually called in japan? Skyline.

Cadillac has a LONG and old heritage. They are using none of it.

Right, but no one outside of Germany will know that, and I bet a lot of people in Germany don't either. He was making the argument that people buy luxury cars to show off, and there needs to be a numbers in the name so you can measure your dick with your neighbor even if they're not a car person. You go up to a random non-car person and ask them: which is more expensive an E-Class, a C-class or a ML and most won't be able to tell you.

True

Then again the random non-car person probably only knows that Mercedes makes cars and that their CEO has a moustache and talks funny about suspension parts in those old Chrysler commercials.
